Missouri's largest military base is getting bigger.
Nearly 1,000 NEW troops will be stationed at Fort Leonard Wood under a plan released by Army officials Wednesday.
The largest addition will be 570 troops as part of the 4th Combat Support Brigade. An additional 170 service members will become part of the 512th Military Police Combat Support Company.
In all, the base population will swell to nearly 28,000 troops.
“It has been my goal to make Fort Leonard Wood one of America's premier military installations,” said Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Mo. “These new forces will be a welcome addition to Fort Leonard Wood's military family and will only enhance the post's reputation,”

Congressman Ike Skelton has reported that the Fiscal Year 2008 National Defense Authorization bill report includes over $136 million for projects at Fort Leonard Wood. Some of the bigger projects consist of $10.4 million for a chapel, $56 million for operations facilities, $26 million for barracks and $22 million for a dining facility at the Basic Combat Training Complex. Other projects include funds for various firing ranges and a child development center.

Newly announced grant monies aid in the continued growth of the Fort Leonard Wood area!
“This is going to have a multimillion dollar impact,” reported Joe Driskill, Executive Director of the Leonard Wood Institute, a nonprofit group created in 2004. The Leonard Wood Institute (LWI) announced on November 1st that an estimated $7 million in federal funding will be allocated in grants for 20 local projects. The allocation will create and support dozens of jobs in the Fort Leonard Wood area.

The Ft. Leonard Wood Duplex project is current underway with several phases. Phase 1 of the project has SOLD OUT and Phase 2 is selling quickly. Check back often to monitor the progress of this new and exciting development!
